The Yellow Book promotes creative expression and wellbeing

About The Yellow Book

The Yellow Book is a publication from the rethinkyourmind project. It is created by those with experience of mental health challenges and is endorsed by professionals. It also contains signposting to organisations and resources to support people with mental health conditions, including Reading Well Books on Prescription. The book aims to educate, aid and support people.

Get creative and submit your own work

Entries have now opened for the 2017 edition of The Yellow Book. Poems, artwork and photography are invited, using the sentence ‘I feel better when I am…’ as a starting point. The competition is free to enter and is open to all UK residents of any age. Competition entry closes on 10 February 2017. Each entrant can submit up to two pieces of artwork or photography and up to two poems. See the 2015 edition of The Yellow Book to get some inspiration from previous entries.

The prizes

All 50 selected entrants are invited to a guest presentation at the House of Lords in 2017 hosted by Professor Lord Patel of Bradford OBE. They will also receive a commemorative hardback copy of The Yellow Book. Fourteen of the selected entrants will also win an iPad Air, and have their work appear on a rethinkyourmind music single, either as the lyrics to the song, a poem read aloud, or the cover artwork.

The value of The Yellow Book

The Yellow Book provides freely available signposting to organisations and support for people living with mental health conditions. Alongside information about Reading Well, each organisation involved in the project has their own page dedicated to the work that they do, with signposts for you to gather as much or as little information as you want. The Yellow Book also provides people with a space to express themselves creatively, which can also help to support health and wellbeing.
